The Book Behind The Story
Millions of people around the world have seen Gone with the Wind, which premiered in the United States on December 15, 1939. It won 10 Academy Awards and remains one of Hollywood’s most commercially successful films. It was based on Margaret Mitchell’s 1936 novel, which sold one million copies within 6 months, received a Pulitzer Prize, and has been translated into more than 40 languages. An epic movie often has its source in a powerful and timeless book.
Foley Artists
Crunch. Crunch. Whoosh! In the early days of film, Foley artists created sounds to support the story’s action. Squeezing a leather pouch filled with cornstarch made the sound of snow crunching, shaking a pair of gloves sounded like bird wings flapping, and waving a thin stick made a whoosh sound. To make movies as realistic as possible, these artists used creative techniques to replicate sounds.
Dangerous Shortcuts
During recent elections in my country, one struggling mom I know exchanged her vote for a bag of diapers. We had discussed the benefits of each candidate, so her choice disappointed me. “But what about your convictions?” I asked. She remained silent. Six months after her candidate won, taxes went even higher. Everything is now more expensive than before . . . even diapers!
I just received and read your newly formatted "Our Daily Bread". I love it!
I have been reading and studying your daily devotions for over 40 years. Sometimes I will add other devotional material and they come and go but I always read first your devotion and continue to do that to this very day.
Not long ago I was given the incredible opportunity of being a part of a team to train Muslim men and women who had believed and trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord in Tunisia. We use the Bible Training Center for Pastor's teachings to provide the basic knowledge and skills for these Christians to effectively and rightly divide the Word of Truth as they lead and pastor others. In my part of the teachings my pastor said to me that my presentation seemed like a series of devotionals linked together. It was then that I realized that after so many years of reading your devotions I have been trained to rightly divide the Word through you under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. My pastor has a seminary degree. I have the practical everyday Biblical foundation that you have given me that has made a huge difference in my life as I share the love of Christ to others.
I thank God for you and the influence your ministry has provided me.
In Christ,
John Herzer.

Ask The Author
Over the years I’ve been part of various book groups. Typically, several friends read a book and then we get together to discuss the ideas the author has put forward. Inevitably, one person will raise a question that none of us can answer. And then someone will say, “If only we could ask the author.” A popular new trend in New York City is making that possible. Some authors, for a hefty fee, are making themselves available to meet with book clubs.
God’s Refreshing Word
When I was a boy, our family would occasionally travel across Nevada. We loved the desert thunderstorms. Accompanied by lightning bolts and claps of thunder, huge sheets of rain would blanket the hot sand as far as the eye could see. The cooling water refreshed the earth—and us.

ReadLove Letter
Each morning when I reach my office, I have one simple habit—check all my emails. Most of the time, I’ll work through them in a perfunctory fashion. There are some emails, however, that I’m eager to open. You guessed it—those from loved ones.
