Kent Martin from Betel UK spoke to us about how God has been using the work of Betel to change the lives of homeless people and those who struggle with addictions. Betel offers a strategy of long term recovery that is tailored for each person and involves structure and learning to know the God who cares about each of us.

Lee joined the British army at seventeen. He started drinking, grew increasingly violent and earned himself the nickname of “The Psycho”. But after years of trying to drink himself to death, Lee realised (though going to church and reading Our Daily Bread) that he needed to be right with God.

The Christian Motorcyclists Association seeks to bring the gospel to the motorcycle communities round the world. The CMA in the UK is run by bikers, for bikers—sharing the love of Jesus and forging meaningful, God-centred relationships with bike enthusiasts and their families.

After training and graduating in the Performing Arts, Lucy became a West End dancer and performer. Although she knew Jesus from a very young age, she also spent many years of her life trying to do things her own way. After she committed her life to God again as an adult, she discovered how her many creative talents and gifts could be used both to make Jesus known and to express her love for Him.

In 2004, Ben lost control of his car; the crash was very nearly fatal. He was prayed for around the world, and God miraculously brought him through the road-side surgery and recovery.

Motorbikes have always been an important part of Colin’s life. But God hasn’t.

After school he bought his first motorbike, expecting it to bring freedom and everything he’d always wanted. He joined a motorbike gang, but his life was only fuelled by hatred. He had no idea how to love. He couldn’t even love his wife and children. Colin now looks back and sees how God was at work, even then.

During one church service, Colin finally gave his life to Jesus—and suddenly realised what it was to love. Today, he leads the Bikers Church in the UK—and he has introduced his whole family to his Saviour.

Although Daniel grew up in church, as he got a little older he found himself wanting to live more like his non-Christian friends. He got involved in shoplifting and was handed a prison sentence a day before his eighteenth birthday. After prison Daniel hoped to stay out of trouble. But it wasn’t long before his life of partying and cocaine began to feel empty and meaningless.

One day, as he watched a preacher on TV warn of the reality of hell, Daniel knew he needed Jesus. As he started to read his Bible, everything began to change—his relationship with God grew and he finally found peace in his life.

Martin was a daily, dependent alcoholic. It continued until his wife forced him to choose between drinking and his family. Through the support of Alcoholics Anonymous and the church in which the group met, Martin came to know God and receive His Spirit for himself.

On 27 December 2007, Frances and Fred lost their seventeen year old son Robert. Their decision to stand firm in God's grace and forgiveness is still having a profound effect today on many hundreds of people. They travel to different motorbike shows and festivals to display their Harley Davidson Softail bike called "The Pilgrim". At each event many people come to hear their incredibly painful story - and in doing so, they see a powerful example of the forgiveness Jesus offers to everyone.
