The Language Of Whistling
On La Gomera, one of the smallest of the Canary Islands, a language that sounds like a bird song is being revived. In a land of deep valleys and steep ravines, schoolchildren and tourists are learning how whistling was once used to communicate for distances up to 2 miles. One goat herder who is using this ancient language once again to communicate with his flock said, “They recognize my whistle as they recognize my voice.”
When we Love Man more than God
Have you ever wondered what will happen when not even a single person cares enough to seek after God’s heart? What will happen when everyone on the face of this earth stops putting in effort into loving one another with the kind of love described in 1 Corinthians 13? What […]
Rooted
Joash must have been confused and frightened when he was told about the evil deeds of his grandmother Athaliah. She had murdered his brothers to usurp the power of the throne in Judah. But baby Joash had been safely hidden away by his aunt and uncle for 6 years (2 Chron. 22:10-12). As he grew, he enjoyed the love and instruction of his caregivers. When Joash was only 7 years old, he was secretly crowned king and his grandmother was overthrown (23:12-15).
How understanding the progression of faith helps us lead others down that same path!
When is the exact moment a person becomes a Christian? Is it after they say a prayer? After baptism? Or is being a follower of Jesus a lifelong journey? Let’s discuss the process of becoming a Christian.
How we’ll never know faith works, until it’s put to the test!
That summertime hammock may look sturdy and well constructed. But it’s not until we commit to laying down that we find out if it can hold us up! Another helpful study in James, chapter 1.
Spiritual Navigation
Dava Sobel’s award-winning book Longitude describes a dilemma faced by early sailors. They could readily determine their latitude north or south of the equator by the length of the day or height of the sun. Calculating east/west longitude, however, remained complex and unreliable until English clockmaker John Harrison invented the marine chronometer. This was “a clock that would carry the true time from the home port . . . to any remote corner of the world,” thus enabling sailors to determine longitude.
Following The Master
At a dog show near my home, I watched a Cardigan Welsh corgi named Trevor perform. At his master’s command, he ran several yards away and immediately returned, he jumped fences, and he identified objects using his sense of smell. After finishing each exercise, he sat down at his master’s feet and waited for more instructions.

The recent media attention on Robin Williams’ suicide started me thinking about how having a seemingly unquenchable void or desire in one’s life can be so devastating. April 8, 1994. On that day 20 years ago, millions of music fans across the globe awoke to a disturbing news. Kurt Cobain, lead […]
Discover how at the heart of God’s laws is His desire for a loving relationship
Some people think God is all about rules and regulations. Be a part of the discussion from Mark chapter 12
Why is it so hard to pray?
Written by P. Cheong Photo Source: Creationswap God has been speaking to me about prayer over the past few days. So, today, as I flipped my laptop open, pretty certain about what I wanted to write, I was all of a sudden filled with an inexplicable sense of uncertainty. What can I say about prayer, […]
My maiden solo trip
We all need pauses in life. I take my pauses in various ways, from one-hour hangouts at little cafes to short staycations in Singapore. I make it a point to have such pauses, such me-and-God times. To reflect, to rest, and to recharge. This year, I decided to […]
Waving The White Flag
Recently, while watching a video of a church service held in South America, I noticed something I had never seen before in church. As the pastor passionately called his flock to yield their lives to Jesus, one of the parishioners took a white hankie out of his pocket and started waving it in the air. Then another, and another. With tears running down their cheeks, they were expressing full surrender to Christ.
Existential Crisis
Do you sometimes have bouts of insecurity where you fret about the future in general? If you do, don’t worry, you are not alone! But sometimes this journey really does feel lonely, doesn’t it? There […]
Not A Hitching Post
You may have heard the saying, “The past is supposed to be a guidepost, not a hitching post.” It’s easy to become tied to memories of “the good old days” instead of using our experiences to find direction for the road ahead. We are all susceptible to the paralyzing effects of nostalgia—a longing for what used to be.
World’s Fastest Walkers
According to a study measuring the pace of life of cities in 32 countries, people in the biggest hurry live here in Singapore. We walk 60 feet in 10:55 seconds, compared to 12:00 seconds for New Yorkers and 31:60 seconds for those living in the African city of Blantyre, Malawi.
