“The Cross As A Way Of Life”
Why did Jesus die on the cross? Certainly, it was to pay for our sins but that’s not the only reason. Today on Discover the Word, the team and special guest Robert Gelinas get together for another conversation on “The Cross as a Way of Life.” Learn how the death of Christ teaches us to […]
How Has Jesus Called Us To Live?

Discover How The Cross Is A Model For Life
To a first-century Roman, a cross wasn’t a piece of jewelry or a wall decoration. It was a symbol of death. But today on Discover the Word, the team, along with special guest Robert Gelinas remind us that the cross is more than just a reminder of Christ’s death, it’s a model for life. Discover […]
Interrupted Fellowship
The loud, sorrowful cry pierced the dark afternoon air. I imagine it drowning out the sound of mourning from friends and loved ones gathered at Jesus’s feet. It must have overwhelmed the moans of the dying criminals who flanked Jesus on both sides. And surely startled all who heard it.
“Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani!” Jesus cried out in agony and in utter despondency as He hung on that cross of shame on Golgotha (Matthew 27:45–46).
“My God,” He said, “my God, why have you forsaken me?”
I cannot think of more heart-wrenching words. Since eternity, Jesus had been in perfect fellowship with God…
Thinking of Prayer as Jesus Taught
Our thinking about prayer, whether right or wrong, is based on our own mental conception of it. The correct concept is to think of prayer as the breath in our lungs and the blood from our hearts. Our blood flows and our breathing continues “without ceasing”; we are not even conscious of it, but it never stops. And we are not always conscious of Jesus keeping us in perfect oneness with God, but if we are obeying Him, He always is. Prayer is not an exercise, it is the life of the saint.
His Agony and Our Access
Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples….”Stay here and watch with Me.” —Matthew 26:36, 38
We can never fully comprehend Christ’s agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, but at least we don’t have to misunderstand it. It is the agony of God and man in one Person, coming face to face with sin. We cannot learn about Gethsemane through personal experience. Gethsemane and Calvary represent…
Everyone Likes A Winner
Everyone likes a winner. And when the Jews imagined the Messiah, they imagined a conquering king, not a crucified criminal. But today on Discover the Word, we’ll discuss how Jesus’s “kingdom” is different than we might imagine. It’s a kingdom the thief being crucified on the cross next to Jesus wanted in on! Join the […]

“The Same Sun That Melts Ice, Hardens Clay”
“The same sun that melts ice, hardens clay.” Ever heard that before? It’s true, isn’t it? And when exposed to God, some hearts become tender, but others grow calloused. The Suffering Of Jesus On The Cross
When we see crosses, they’re usually either jewelry or decorative centerpieces in a church! Today on Discover the Word, we’ll discuss the suffering of Jesus on the cross and what that […]
What’s The Difference Between Healthy And Unhealthy Fear
When we’re faced with something scary, there are two natural reactions, fight or flight! And when Moses encountered a talking, burning bush, he was plenty scared. He hid his face, but he didn’t run. Today on Discover the Word, the team shows us the difference between healthy and unhealthy fear. Be listening to their series […]
The Gift of the Magi
A young married couple had more love than money. As Christmas neared, both struggled to find a gift that would show how much they cared for the other. Finally, on Christmas Eve, Della sold her long, knee-length hair to buy Jim a platinum chain for the watch he’d inherited from his father and grandfather. Jim, however, had just sold the watch to buy a set of expensive combs for Della’s hair.
Author O. Henry called the couple’s story The Gift of the Magi. His creation suggests that even though their gifts became useless and may have caused them to look foolish on…
