Mike Mohede: A Life Well-Lived
I was shocked when I first heard the news: Mike Mohede, a 32-year-old singer who won Season 2 of Indonesian Idol, passed away yesterday at Premiere Bintaro hospital, Indonesia, from a heart attack.

Why We Need Games like Pokemon Go

Our Chief Task
When a British scholar called on the world’s religions to work together for worldwide unity, people everywhere applauded. Pointing out that the major religions share a belief in the Golden Rule, she suggested, “The chief task of our time is to build a global society where people of all persuasions can live together in peace and harmony.”
Jesus cited the Golden Rule in His Sermon on the Mount: “Do to others what you would have them do to you” (Matt. 7:12). In the same sermon, He said, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (5:44). Putting those radical…
A Firm Place to Stand
The historic riverwalk area of Savannah, Georgia, is paved with mismatched cobblestones. Local residents say that centuries ago the stones provided ballast for ships as they crossed the Atlantic Ocean. When cargo was loaded in Georgia, the ballast stones were no longer needed, so they were used to pave the streets near the docks. Those stones had accomplished their primary job—stabilizing the ship through dangerous waters.
The days in which we live can feel as turbulent as the high seas. Like sailing ships of old, we need stability to help us navigate our way through the storms of life. David…
Lord, Help!
I was so happy for my friend when she told me she was going to be a mum! Together we counted the days until the birth. But when the baby suffered a brain injury during delivery, my heart broke and I didn’t know how to pray. All I knew was who I should pray to—God. He is our Father, and He hears us when we call.
I knew that God was capable of miracles. He brought Jairus’ daughter back to life (Luke 8:49-55) and in so doing also healed the girl of whatever disease had robbed her of life. So I asked…

Descendants of the Sun: 5 Relationship Hacks
By the end of this week, millions of people, especially in Asia, will likely be experiencing a mixture of sadness, anxiety, and irritability—which I shall affectionately term the “post-DOTS syndrome”. For the uninitiated, here’s why: the massively popular Korean TV drama Descendants of the Sun (DOTS) will air its last episode tonight (14 April).
Is God into quick fixes?
Have you ever wondered why God intervenes in some situations quickly while in other situations, He doesn’t seem to do anything? Why are some people healed instantly, while others take a much longer time—and some are not healed at all?
Wisdom and Grace
On April 4, 1968, American civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was assassinated, leaving millions angry and disillusioned. In Indianapolis, a largely African-American crowd had gathered to hear Robert F. Kennedy speak. Many had not yet heard of Dr. King’s death, so Kennedy had to share the tragic news. He appealed for calm by acknowledging not only their pain but his own abiding grief over the murder of his brother, President John F. Kennedy.
Kennedy then quoted a variation of an ancient poem by Aeschylus (526–456 bc):
Even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget falls drop by drop upon…
5 Reasons to Watch “Risen”
I am not a fan of biblically inspired movies. Here’s why: More often than not, the plotlines deviate substantially from Bible narratives, all in the name of “creative liberty”.
The Appeal of The Young Messiah
For anyone who has ever wondered if that was how Jesus was like as a boy, The Young Messiah, an American biblical drama, addresses this very question, presenting a fresh and interesting take on a seven-year-old Jesus.

Do You Know and Tell the Gospel?
I don’t think I’m being overly cynical in saying that many Christians, including myself, lack evangelistic zeal. I have noticed that I can talk to my friends about almost any topic except the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Ice Flowers
Fifteen-year-old Wilson Bentley was captivated by the intricate beauty of snowflakes. He looked with fascination through an old microscope his mother had given him and made hundreds of sketches of their remarkable designs, but they melted too quickly to adequately capture their detail. Several years later, in 1885, he had an idea. He attached a bellows camera to the microscope and, after much trial and error, took his first picture of a snowflake. During his lifetime Bentley would capture 5,000 snowflake images and each one was a unique design. He described them as “tiny miracles of beauty” and “ice flowers.”
