What My Ideal Family Looks Like

I had always wished that I was an Eurasian, so I would have nice big, deep-set eyes and light brown hair. Ideally, I would be the youngest of three, with two elder brothers, and I would be studying in an international school in an Asian country where my dad works as a diplomat. My English […]

My Father Is with Me

A friend struggling with loneliness posted these words on her Facebook page: “It’s not that I feel alone because I have no friends. I have lots of friends. I know that I have people who can hold me and reassure me and talk to me and care for me and think of me. But they can’t be with me all the time—for all time.”

Jesus understands that kind of loneliness. I imagine that during His earthly ministry He saw loneliness in the eyes of lepers and heard it in the voices of the blind. But above all, He must have…

How God accomplishes His greater purpose

Something New

It was only scrap wood, but Charles Hooper saw much more than that. Salvaging old timbers from a long-abandoned corncrib, he sketched some simple plans. Then he felled a few oak and poplar trees from his wooded property and painstakingly squared them with his grandfather’s broadax. Piece by piece, he began to fit together the old lumber with the new.

Today you can see Charles and Shirley Hooper’s postcard-perfect log cabin, tucked away in the trees on Tennessee Ridge. Part guesthouse, part museum for family heirlooms, the structure stands as an enduring tribute to Charles’ vision, skill, and patience.

What is our role in God’s story?

All of history is God’s story, and each of us has a role to play in that tale. Join us for an eye-opening conversation today as we explore a scene from the book of Acts and discover how each character had a part in God’s bigger plan.

After the Holy Spirit revealed Himself to me while I was lost in spiritual darkness, in a place consumed of spiritualism and drugs, Our Daily Bread was one of the first ways I saw God reach out to me after my deliverance. In the following weeks and months when I was  deep in spiritual warfare the enemy gave a last ditch effort to pull me back Our Daily Bread was an amazing source of hope and strength for me in my walk into intimacy with the Lord. I just want to thank everyone at ODB for listening to the Spirit move in your lives and being obedient to the call to this ministry to extend Gods love in this way. Glory to God!

Feeling Insignificant?

We are among seven billion people who coexist on a tiny planet that resides in a small section of a rather insignificant solar system. Our earth, in reality, is just one miniscule blue dot among millions of celestial bodies that God created. On the gigantic canvas that is our universe, our beautiful, majestic Earth appears as a tiny speck of dust.

That could make us feel extremely unimportant and inconsequential. However, God’s Word suggests that just the opposite is true. Our great God, who “measured the waters in the hollow of His hand” (Isa. 40:12), has singled out each person…

Being Jesus Online

Jesus wants to be the God of all areas of our lives, including how we communicate in the digital realm. Being Jesus Online offers some practical insights for digital discernment.

Yesterday I had the privilege of sharing Jesus with someone of the Hindu faith. That morning I prayed to point people to Jesus by focusing on Christ, the Cross and the crucifixion. I flying with Spirit Airline and was assigned a aisle seat next to a man named Kaahla. I point him to Jesus by explaining how Christ has made a significant difference in my life. I lifted up Jesus name, the savior o the world. I pray that Jesus would continue to pursue that man and his family until they are saved. He was a very nice man.

Light in the Darkness

During a trip to Peru, I visited one of the many caves found throughout that mountainous country. Our guide told us that this particular cave had already been explored to a depth of 9 miles—and it went even deeper. We saw fascinating bats, nocturnal birds, and interesting rock formations. Before long, however, the darkness of the cave became unnerving—almost suffocating. I was greatly relieved when we returned to the surface and the light of day.

That experience was a stark reminder of how oppressive darkness can be and how much we need light. We live in a world made dark…
