Our brothers and sisters in Christ in East Malaysia are in great need of biblical resources, especially in their own language. Find out more here.

Staying Focused During Life’s Unexpected Detours

Navigating life’s tough times is rarely as simple as going from Point A to Point B. Chances are, you’re going to have to make some unexpected detours along the way. Today on Discover the Word, the team will encourage us to stay focused on the destination whenever we’re sidetracked by life’s detours. Tune in today […]

Watching With Jesus

Watch with Me.” Jesus was saying, in effect, “Watch with no private point of view at all, but watch solely and entirely with Me.” In the early stages of our Christian life, we do not watch with Jesus, we watch for Him. We do not watch with Him through the revealed truth of the Bible even in the circumstances of our own lives. Our Lord is trying to introduce us to identification with Himself through a particular “Gethsemane” experience of our own.

Building Bridges

In our neighborhood, high concrete walls surround our homes. Many of these walls are enhanced with electric barbed wires lining the top. The purpose? To ward off robbers.

Frequent power outages are also a problem in our neighborhood. These outages render the front gate-bell useless. Because of the wall, a visitor may be kept out in the scorching sun or torrential rain during these outages. Yet even when the gate-bell works, to admit the visitor might depend on who they are. Our fence-walls serve a good purpose, but they can become walls of discrimination—even when the visitor is obviously not an…

When I Faced Injustice At Work

I work as a salesperson. Just like any other salesperson, I face immense pressure on a daily basis to bring clients in and ensure I hit my sales target.

When God Carries Out His Plan In Unexpected Ways

When the trials of life appear like storm clouds in the distance, our first instinct is to jump ship. But God always has a greater purpose in mind when He takes us into rough seas. Today on Discover the Word, we are reminded not to be alarmed when God carries out His plan in unexpected […]

His!

A missionary is someone in whom the Holy Spirit has brought about this realization: “You are not your own” (1 Corinthians 6:19). To say, “I am not my own,” is to have reached a high point in my spiritual stature. The true nature of that life in actual everyday confusion is evidenced by the deliberate giving up of myself to another Person through a sovereign decision, and that Person is Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit interprets and explains the nature of Jesus to me to make me one with my Lord, not that I might simply become a trophy for His showcase.

Beyond the Stars

In 2011, the National Aeronautics and Space Association celebrated thirty years of space research. In those three decades, shuttles carried over 355 people into space and helped construct the International Space Station. After retiring five shuttles, NASA has now shifted its focus to deep-space exploration.

The human race has invested massive amounts of time and money, with some astronauts even sacrificing their lives, to study the immensity of the universe. Yet the evidence of God’s majesty stretches far beyond what we can measure.

When we consider the Sculptor and Sustainer of the universe who knows each star by name (Isaiah 40:26), we…

5 Things To Do When Confronting Someone

“He did something wrong. You should talk to him.”

“Hey, why me? You should be the one to tell him. Aren’t you his friend?”

Due to my conflict-avoidant personality, the idea of correcting someone scares me. I fear that speaking up will affect my relationship with my friends. Therefore, when I see them doing something wrong, I often ask others to reprove them instead, just like I did in the conversation above.

Trusting God In The Shipwrecks Of Life

The seas of life are rarely calm. So when the water gets rough, how do we respond? Well, today on Discover the Word, the team will help us find the courage and faith to trust God in the shipwreck seasons of life. More biblical encouragement from the life of Paul for “Navigating Life’s Shipwrecks” coming […]

Pouring Out the Water of Satisfaction

What has been like “water from the well of Bethlehem” to you recently— love, friendship, or maybe some spiritual blessing ( 2 Samuel 23:16 )? Have you taken whatever it may be, even at the risk of damaging your own soul, simply to satisfy yourself? If you have, then you cannot pour it out “to the Lord.” You can never set apart for God something that you desire for yourself to achieve your own satisfaction.

Finding the Way Home

Sometimes this journey through life can be so difficult that we’re simply overwhelmed, and it seems there is no end to the darkness. During such a time in our own family’s life, my wife emerged one morning from her quiet time with a new lesson learned. “I think God wants us not to forget in the light what we’re learning in this darkness.

Paul writes this same thought to the Corinthians (2 Corinthians 1), after describing the terrible difficulties he and his team endured in Asia. Paul wants the Corinthians to understand how God can redeem even our darkest moments. We…

I Thought I Needed To Be Beautiful

My colleagues and I were having lunch at the pantry when we saw a colleague heading for the office door with her purse.

“Where is she going?” someone in the group asked.

Another colleague answered, “Oh, she has taken half the day off to watch a Korean pop concert. She has a premium ticket.”
