Why Do Some People Believe All Religions Lead to the Same God?
The idea that truth is exclusive does not sit well with many people today, does it?
In fact, it is deeply upsetting to some. We cherish the liberty to decide for ourselves what is true and what is not; at the same time, we demand that others be truthful to us.
Forgive Others Like Christ Forgave You
Have you ever been told to “forgive and forget”? Is that really how forgiveness works? Today on Discover the Word, the team, and special guest Robert Gelinas talk about the true nature of an often-misunderstood concept. When we understand how Christ forgave us, the way we forgive others will never be the same. Their series […]
The Compelling Purpose of God
He . . . said to them, ’Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem . . —Luke 18:31
Jerusalem, in the life of our Lord, represents the place where He reached the culmination of His Father’s will. Jesus said, “I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me” (John 5:30). Seeking to do “the will of the Father” was the one dominating concern throughout our Lord’s life.
To My Dear Friend
What the apostle John did for his friend Gaius in the first century is a dying art in the twenty-first century. John wrote him a letter.
One writer for the New York Times, Catherine Field, said, “Letter-writing is among our most ancient of arts. Think of letters and the mind falls on Paul of Tarsus,” for example. And we can add the apostle John.
In his letter to Gaius, John included hopes for good health of body and soul, an encouraging word about Gaius’s faithfulness, and a note about his love for the church. John also spoke of a problem in the church,…
“In Christ”
Today on Discover the Word, we welcome seminary professor Con Campbell to the table. Together, we’ll be studying Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus to discover how an identity “In Christ” changed everything for these early church believers. Learn what this can mean for your life, too! Listen today to Discover the Word!
What Should Christians Do About the Pain and Suffering in This World?
I never expected celebrity chef and writer Anthony Bourdain to take his own life. No one did. Few guessed the internal struggles that sapped his zest for living, even while publicly he personified vitality itself. Sad news comes as a shock, even when there is so much of it.
“Substitutes” Get A Bad Rap
From off-brand sodas to understudies in a Broadway musical, “substitutes” get a bad rap. But today on Discover the Word, the team and special guest Robert Gelinas discuss how Jesus was our substitute and how we can live as substitutes for others. Learn the way of the cross today on Discover the Word!
The Teaching of Adversity
The typical view of the Christian life is that it means being delivered from all adversity. But it actually means being delivered in adversity, which is something very different. “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling . . .” (Psalm 91:1,10)— the place where you are at one with God.

Healing Flood
I’ve always loved a good thunderstorm. As kids, whenever a storm was truly incredible—with booming thunder and buckets of heavy rain pounding down—my siblings and I would make a mad dash around the outside of our house, slipping and sliding along the way. When it was time to go back inside, we were soaked to the bone.
It was an exhilarating taste—for just for a few minutes—of being immersed in something so powerful we couldn’t quite tell whether we were having fun or terrified.
This picture comes to mind when, as in Psalm 107, Scripture compares God’s restoration to a barren wilderness…
When Anger Burns
Anger is a powerful emotion that is often viewed as something we should avoid. However, in When Anger Burns, Tim Jackson explores that “anger is neither right nor wrong until there is a motive.” Through various examples from his counseling career, Jackson helps us identify the root causes of anger …
“The Cross As A Way Of Life”
Why did Jesus die on the cross? Certainly, it was to pay for our sins but that’s not the only reason. Today on Discover the Word, the team and special guest Robert Gelinas get together for another conversation on “The Cross as a Way of Life.” Learn how the death of Christ teaches us to […]
Learning About His Ways
He comes where He commands us to leave. If you stayed home when God told you to go because you were so concerned about your own people there, then you actually robbed them of the teaching of Jesus Christ Himself. When you obeyed and left all the consequences to God, the Lord went into your city to teach, but as long as you were disobedient, you blocked His way.
