Praying Friends

I met my friend Angie for lunch after having not seen her for several months. At the end of our time together, she pulled out a piece of paper with notes from our previous get-together. It was a list of my prayer requests she had been praying for since then.

Jesus’ Team

In 2002 the Oakland Athletics built a winning baseball team in an unorthodox way. They had lost three top players after 2001, and the team didn’t have money to sign any stars. So Oakland’s general manager, Billy Beane, used some often-neglected statistics to assemble a group of lesser-known players either “past their prime” or seen by other teams as not skilled enough.

Wings

By Milana Bubanova, 17, Czech Republic Wings If butterfly would lend me wings, I would come fluttering, With all my broken dreams, To find solace in Your open arms. There I’d find the perfect peace, The sureness of Your presence, The warmth of Your love, And the comfort of Your embrace. Everything in me, Lord [...]

A biblical look at a puzzling passage

Does God ever put temptations in our way to make us stumble and fall? “Lead us not into temptation.”

On The Fringe

When butterflies hatch at Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan, they do so in an indoor tropical paradise perfectly suited to meet their every need. The temperature is perfect. The humidity is perfect. The food is a perfect balance of calories and nutrition to keep them healthy.

Bumper Cars

Life is a lot like “bumper cars” at an amusement park. You get in your car, knowing that you will get hit . . . you just don’t know how hard. And when you get hit, you step on the gas pedal, chase the one who has hit you, and hope to bump that person harder than they have bumped you.

An encouraging story you don’t want to miss

No matter how long you’ve been a follower of Christ, forgiveness is never easy. Haddon Robinson shares a personal story of his own battle with Jesus’ words, “Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.”

Forced Leisure

Just before Christmas one year, a friend was diagnosed with leukemia and was told she must begin chemotherapy immediately. Just a few weeks earlier, Kim had told friends how blessed and content she felt with a loving family, a comfortable home, and a new grandson.

Small But Needful

By Ian Tan, Singapore What does it take for a car to be able to take us from one place to another? Naturally, we would think of the different parts of the vehicle (wheels, engine, steering wheel, etc) that work together to bring about movement. In my recent trip to Brazil, I was thankful to [...]

Why an attitude of forgiveness is so important for your relationships

It’s one thing to ask forgiveness when we’ve done something hurtful, but an entirely different story when we’re the ones who’ve been wounded! A timely conversation for your relationships.

They’re Watching

It’s been several decades since a high school event devastated me. Playing sports was hugely important to me. I zeroed in on basketball and spent hundreds of hours practicing my game. So when I didn’t make the varsity team in my last year after being on the team since junior high, I was crushed.

Is the Bible reliable and trustworthy?

By Chaz Oswald, 21, Michigan Before exploring this question, we should first tackle a prior question: What is the Bible? Well, the Bible is a compilation of 66 God-inspired and inerrant books written by roughly 40 different authors over 1600 years. Many of the authors had no communication or contact with each other, yet wrote [...]
