Resuming our daily work

Dear Friends,

Last month we ran a soft launch of Building a Bridge 2.0, a campaign to raise awareness and funding for our work in producing resources in Bahasa Malaysia. We called it 2.0 as this was the second year that we are running it. For a full report of the launch, have a look at July’s update.

As part of the campaign, we released a 55-page booklet called Seksualiti: Prinsip dan Tujuan Tuhan written by Rev. Dr. M.G. George. To-date, 300 copies of this booklet have been distributed to pastors. This helpful resource addresses the issue of sexuality from a biblical perspective, and is aimed at young people.

Dayday

Immediately after the first relaxation of the MCO, we went back to the office to pack the quarterly issue of Our Daily Bread. We could not do it earlier due to the lockdown. But praise God that by the second week of July, the September-November editions have also been mailed out.

Dayday

Due to social distancing and adhering to SOPs set by the authorities, we also haven’t been inviting our regular volunteers to help us with packing. It is times like these that we truly value the contribution of our volunteers, who laboured with us for weeks every quarter. Their dedication ensured that the devotionals could be sent out in time to our readers – both churches and individuals.

What encouraged us so much was readers who called us when they did not get their copies on time.

Thank the Lord that our quarterlies were sent out, although there were delays. What encouraged us so much was readers who called us when they did not get their copies on time. It was good to know that many are following the reading plans, and are anxious enough to call when their copies had not arrived.

Then we faced another issue. As churches were not opened for weekend services, many said not to mail out their usual quantities.

An urgent message was sent out that somehow went viral through WhatsApp, asking churches if they would like some of these copies. Through efforts by some friends of the ministry, thousands went out – even to a large Christian bookstore in Kuala Lumpur, Cannaanland. Many also chipped in to help so that the devotionals got distributed.

We thought it is so appropriate that in troubled times like these, the message about God’s Word could still go out to draw people to Christ Jesus. As such, we pray that our daily devotionals will continue to strengthen your walk with the Lord.

This brings to mind the often quoted scripture in Isaiah 40:8: “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

We are now in a season of change as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. How would the future pan out is anyone’s guess, although there are many speculations of what the new normal will look like.

As believers in Christ, we are reminded that our hope is still in the Lord God and in His Word. This is the truth we must cling onto in the midst of so many uncertainties like loss of business, possible job loss, mental health issues and breakdown in family relationships.
