Today, as we celebrate the birth of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, it reminds us that after independence, Dr B.R. Ambedkar was the first Minister of Law & Justice and was heading the committee in drafting the Constitution of India. Because of his love for mankind, he took this enormous task of forming the laws on his shoulders. Although there were differences of opinion, culture, and practices across India, he was eager to have the law in place so that it would be accessible and acceptable to all Indians.

Four thousand years ago, when people were in slavery and bondage with the mindset that there was no one to speak or set them free, God himself gave the law to be followed by them (Ten Commandments) through Moses. But not many were able to follow the laws; instead, mankind created their own laws for their convenience because of no love towards God and mankind.

However, Jesus simplified it and said, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you.” In this busy world, loving others should be our practice, by our words and actions, which will help us enjoy the law given to us in this land by our loving Jesus Christ. There are two main principles in this:

To love God

To love people (mankind)

On these two commandments, all the words of the Law and the prophets abide. In other words, the entire Bible has been given to us to teach us about loving God and loving people.

“If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.” (1Cor. 13:1-3)

LAW = Love for the benefit of others
