Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. ~ 1 Peter 3:8
God is the giver of all good gifts. But have you ever tried to discover your God given gifts?
Maybe you sing, or write, or dance…maybe you’re a technical genius and get to be the unofficial IT helpline for anyone with your phone number saved. But also, you might not do any of those things. Because God-given gifts don’t require a specific “talent.”
Some gifts from God can be something you feel passionate about: helping the poor, serving in children’s ministry, or stewardship of the Earth. You might discover a lot more of what resonates with you if you try to see the world as God sees it! A popular song ‘Give me your eyes’ by Brandon Heath challenges us to see the world through God’s loving eyes, and catch some chances that we might be missing to love and serve others.
Give me Your eyes for just one second; Give me Your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing’; Give me Your love for humanity
Give me Your arms for the broken-hearted; The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten; Give me Your eyes so I can see
Reflect
When it comes to serving others, what are you “go-tos?” You know—your favourite/most common ways to serve others (or your community). If you ever struggle with knowing how to serve others, ask God to open your eyes this week to a new opportunity!
A simple prayer like this can be all we need to get started connecting with God in our Lent journeys. To follow more of our journey through Lent and check out our other Lent devotions click here!
