Today's Our Daily Bread

Stories of God at Work

from United States

About 15 years ago, my son died suddenly. I always gave him the devotional each quarter to help him understand God’s love. He was a really good, hard-working, and healthy young man, but he got involved with drugs. He became very depressed over a relationship and ended up taking his own life. We were devastated, but in his house, next to his bed, we found his copy of Our Daily Bread, open to the day he died. At the funeral, we read that day’s Scripture passage from the devotional and it was a comfort to us. Your ministry is truly…

Our Story Isn't About Us.

It all started in 1938 with a small radio program called Detroit Bible Class. With his gravelly voice, Dr. M. R. DeHaan quickly captured the attention of listeners in the Detroit area, and eventually the nation. Since then, our audience has grown to millions of people around the world who use our Bible-based resources.

Beware of the Least Likely Temptation
My Utmost For His Highest

Joab withstood the greatest test of his life, remaining absolutely loyal to David by not turning to follow after the fascinating and ambitious Absalom. Yet toward the end of his life he turned to follow after the weak and cowardly Adonijah. Always remain alert to the fact that where one person has turned back is exactly where anyone may be tempted to turn back (see 1 Corinthians 10:11-13). You may have just victoriously gone through a great crisis, but now be alert about the things that may appear to be the least likely to tempt you. Beware of thinking that the areas of your life where you have experienced victory in the past are now the least likely to cause you to stumble and fall.

Our Daily Journey

On beaches around the globe, you can find people sporting shorts, flip-flops, and headphones as they comb the seashore with metal detectors. While many sun-lovers return from a day at the beach with a tan and a few seashells, these modern-day treasure hunters often bring back something more valuable—gold, mostly in the form of lost jewelry.

God’s World
Our Daily Bread

I knew my son would enjoy receiving a map of the world for his birthday. After some shopping, I found a colorful chart of the continents, which included illustrations in every region. A birdwing butterfly hovered over Papua, New Guinea. Mountains cascaded through Chile. A diamond adorned South Africa. I was delighted, but I wondered about the label at the bottom of the map: Our World.
